Did all the older, original, U.S. anime fans give up and forget it?
I remember when coming across the rare episode of 'Star Blazers' or 'Battle of the Planets' was like finding treasure on that 'new' cable thing. I graduated when very few people had computers. I lived all the years between, mail ordering stuff, etc. I've only been online a year or so, and was amazed at the plethora of anime/manga I could find! (Yuh yungins have it easy)
I have not lived with my parents since I was 16, I have had a lifetime of gainful employment or as an employer in heavy industrial work, and have never been called a nerd. I just never lost the sense of wonder at higher animation than 'The Flintstones' or 'Scooby Doo' (Hong Kong Phooey is still a favorite).

Something like that. I'm somewhere in between young and old. I know when I was in high school and discovered anime I had a hard time finding it. When I hit my mid 20's it became so much easier to find. I started seeing it in movie stores and bookstores where I hadn't before. I never gave up, but I've had access to and watched more anime in the last few years than I ever did from age 15-25.
