ill be buying a laptop.what should i remember when buying a laptop?
i dont know anything about computers. what are the things i should check to get a good laptop?
and how do i check this?
Here are a few things I would look for.
1. A minimum of 2GB of RAM
2. Avoid Celeron and single core Processors. (Core I3, I5, I7, Core2Duo, AMD X2 chips are decent CPU's)
3. A void Intel Graphics cards, the ATI onboard cards are miles better than Intels solutions.
4. Get adequate hard drive space the first time around, replacing the hard drive is not hard but if you have to pay somebody to do it later (if you run out of space) could be quite expensive (I recommend 250GB minimum)
5. If you are buying from Best Buy, refuse to let them Optimize your laptop, it costs quite a bit more and its a useless bunch of crap they install. Also purchase the warranty directly from the manufacturer and not through the store you are buying it through.
6. For example my warranty standard was 1 year... if I added 2 years on top of that through Newegg it would have been 300$ on top of my laptops price... After registering with Acer they offered me an additional 2 year warranty for 99$. (saved me 200$ by going through the laptop manufacturer)
7. If you are using the laptop as your primary computer, I would invest in a external USB mouse, the touch pad does not cut it for some things.
8. Avoid Windows Vista, go with Windows 7 it is much more stable.
9. Most laptops nowadays do not come with factory recovery/reinstall CD's (to reinstall windows) Instead they ask you to burn the DVD's when you first boot your new laptop. I would recommend buying about 5 blank DVD's when you purchase your laptop (if you don't already have some) so you can burn the DVD's first thing and have a windows disk in case anything goes wrong.
I hope I helped you out some
