Vinyl To mp3, will this work?
hi all. i'm trying to transfer vinyl to mp3. i have a turntable,which is mains powered, with phono plugs (white & red) that are the output source. iv'e read i can connect the phono plugs to 3.5 jack plug and connect it to the microphone socket on my laptop. i done that and installed Audacity but when playing back the audio sounds like it is going in & out of a tunnel. am i connecting the turntable correctly or is this just not gonna work properly and i need to buy a USB turntable?

the audio just sounds like its going in & out of a tunnel, i haven't messed with any of the settings on Audacity, i just hooked up the turntable installed Audacity and pressed record.
This definitely shouldn't happen. Do you have any other device with phono outputs on so you can check your record player output isn't playing up? In my option, so many people with decent record players waste good money on worse quality USB turntables rather than working out how to record from the phono outputs of their much better player. So I would certainly persevere...
If you give me a bit more info about the dodgy sound (or maybe post a link to an attempted recording) I'll be able to give more advice...
