Getting into columbia university...?
Okay i'll be quick. My freshman average 76 ( overall ) sophomore year 82 junior year ( preliminary ) 95
sat 2370/2400. Member of 3 clubs I volunteer at the special olympics and wrestled freshman year. I worked for the national park service as a lifeguard over the summer of my junior year and plan on working there again.
In respect for applying to Columbia University do I even have a chance? I had to work really hard since freshman year to make up for my early failures, as well as in the middle of my sophomore year I was diagnosed with ADHD... anyway any constructive criticism would be much appreciated.
I would stress the ADHD diagnosis, especially if you are now taking corrective measures (ie: medication, therapy, etc).
It's not entirely your fault for low grades in school if you had a legitimate undiagnosed medical issue affecting the quality of your work.
That being said, Columbia is going to be tough because there are enough students out there with your SAT's and no grade issues. Make sure you do well on your SAT II's, get some great teacher rec's, and try to stress the medical aspect of ADHD and how it relates to you and your grades. Present it as if you were overcoming a hardship or obstacle, and try to turn it into a positive aspect of your application rather than something you hope the Admissions Office doesn't notice or decides to ignore.
